The largest community race in Australia
In August each year more than 1000 skiers from over twenty nations, gather to ski from Falls Creek over the Bogong High Plains of Victoria's Alpine National Park. This event is called the Kangaroo Hoppet, Australia's premier long distance cross country ski race, and part of the Worldloppet series of twenty international cross country ski events.
For all ages and all abilities
There are three events on the day - 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, 21km Australian Birkebeiner and the 7km Joey Hoppet. The Joey Hoppet is a fantastic introduction into the world of racing and gives you the opportunity to ski alongside some of the elite skiers in Australia.
There is even a chance for junior skiers to win! There are six $500 AGL Energy in Action scholarships in U14, U18 and U23 age classes to win.
Not just racing but a social occasion!
The week leading up to the Kangaroo Hoppet is a feast of skiing and social activities at Falls Creek for all ages and abilities, leading up to the race itself on the fourth Saturday of August. Spectators are welcome to view the event at the mountain.
In the evening participants and friends have the opportunity to relive the events of the day at a social evening in the Mount Beauty Country Club, which includes the presentation of age group and special awards.
